Dons player Ben Gladwin said the players ‘must respond to below- par performance’ following their 2-0 defeat to Crewe Alexandra- but Dons manager Russell Martin does not think it is necessary for them to get ‘over disappointed and emotional’.
First- half goals damage winless Dons at the Alexandra Stadium
Dons owner Winkelman has been criticized over the last couple of weeks for the lack of reinforcements over the transfer window, leaving fans debating whether there in for another disappointing season ahead. With time still left in the transfer window Winkelman tells fans business is still trying to be done.
The Dons suffered back- to- back league defeats, losing 2-0 to the rail boys last weekend. A performance which saw them dominate in possession but no creativity up top against a stubborn and deep- lying Crewe side. Despite Martin’s men pushing up the pitch for the remainder of the second half, they only managed just one shot on target the whole game.
With the Dons not winning away from home in 381 days and having the second highest average possession in England with 67.3% behind Premier League giants Manchester City, they are still yet to win a league game.
This is worrying signs for Dons fans, with just one week left of the transfer window is it time they looked for a guaranteed goal scorer and potentially break their record signing?
The Dons boss said ‘it’s a really bad day, probably one of the worst performances we’ve had for the whole of pre-season and the start of the season and we need to make sure this doesn’t happen again’.
With the likes of debutant Richard Keogh and Scott Fraser returning to the side, Martin goes into next weeks tough encounter against high flying Ipswich Town in search of their first win.
