Columbian magic in Merseyside secures well earnt victory for Ancelotti’s men
Dominic Calvert- Lewin has become the first player in Everton history to score in the opening four fixtures of a Premier League season. This came when he netted in his sixth league goal making him this season’s highest scorer so far. Columbian super star Rodriguez ran the game though scoring twice as the Toffees beat Brighton 4-2 earlier this afternoon to maintain their perfect start to the season.
Everything was going well for the blue side of Merseyside so far this season especially for Calvert- Lewin who earned a senior call up for England earlier this week. This showed when he rose highest to head home at the back post to wrap up another excellent weekend for the 23-year-old.
But the wizardry of a memorable lunchtime involved goals from Columbian team mates James Rodriguez and Yerry Mina. Ancelotti praises man of the match Rodriguez saying, ‘James is showing the quality I saw in Real Madrid and Bayern Munich’. With the toffees now bagging 12 league goals it moves them to the highest scorers this season at present.
Fans suggest after today’s performance that the way the team play is brilliant at one end, but issues at the other. This was after yet another quirky performance from goalkeeper Jorden Pickford who let Brighton in the game at the latter stages of the first- half. After barely been tested England Keeper dropped a simple bouncing ball within the box, to allow Brighton forward Neal Maupay to net his fourth goal this encounter.
The only other negative aside Pickford’s fumble was the loss of forward Richarlison to injury during the first half.
Despite that, toffee fans can start to believe there in for a successful season under the experience of Ancelotti. The last time Everton won each of their opening four fixtures in the top- flight league in the 1969-70 season, they won the title.
The Evertonian fans will be hoping for a promising performance against Merseyside rivals Liverpool next weekend in what is to be their toughest challenge yet. But with exciting football being played under Ancelotti fans hope to see their side put up a fight and to not repeat on score lines from previous years.
