In the cold months of winter, Harrold Cricket Club celebrated yet another successful season on and off the pitch at their annual awards ceremony, which took place at the village pavilion earlier this week.

The 2022 season was a successful year for the North Bedfordshire side winning division seven of the Four Counties league, a massive 75 points clear of second place. The team scored over 300 runs five times in the campaign when batting first and finished with an unbeaten season winning all 16 games.

Individually it was a brilliant season for Joe Peckham scoring 554 runs at an average of 43, with five 50’s and one century, ensuring he was not only top of the Harrold leader board, but the league leader board too, winning the league’s best batsman and best all-rounder awards.

In the bowling department, Joe’s 38 wickets at a strike rate of one wicket every 12 balls showed the kind of form he was in. To add to his bat and ball performance there were 11 catches for Joe in the outfield, capping off a brilliant season for the 21-year-old.

Away from the ‘one and only’ Joe Peckham, the Sunday XI captained by Rick Davis, had an impressive season exceeding all expectations. Having a good homegrown team, they won every game but the last one, topping the fourth division.

Following their strong performances in 2022, the league AGM decided to promote the side to division two of the Bedfordshire County Cricket League, this achievement for the Club is a great reward for a side going from strength to strength.

Summarizing the season, Rick Davis said: “The players are right at the heart of the club with most helping run junior cricket on Friday’s and lending a hand with maintenance or the bar.

“They have turned this club into a very special place to be and I’m delighted about it.

“They are an excellent group that plays in the true spirit of the game, I really couldn’t be prouder of my boys.”
