Leeway given to Solskjaer causes tension between board and fans despite assuring fans United aren’t ready for title challenge.

Summer of turmoil extends to pitch for United as Zaha scores twice to haunt old club, giving Ole his worst nightmare yet.

Fortunate injury-time penalty secures United their first points in this seasons encounter.

Manchester United’s close season from hell followed through into what has been a misadventure so far, from a jail cell in Mykonos to a room at the Radisson in Reykjavik and a failed transfer target in Dortmund. Surely this couldn’t have started any worse for Solskjaer going into the new season.

After seeing Chelsea splash the cash in order to close down giants Manchester City and Liverpool, United fans created a petition on social media demanding the board back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the market. With only two additions to the team this window in midfielder Donny Van De Beek and goalkeeper Ian Henderson, fans believed the title was out of reach from game one.

Arguably being the biggest club in Britain why have United struggled to get their top target Jaden Sancho from German side Borussia Dortmund? With Sancho ranked 2nd among all players playing as a right winger worldwide no wonder Dortmund value Sancho at £108 million. After turning down three offers from United, it’s looking uncertain the red devils will get their man. Fans criticized the board for wasting considerable time and energy over a fee of the Dortmund winger.

With their always being a big high figure signing which fans can look forward to at United, it would seem daft to not just pay the asking price of Sancho, fans worry as a potential rival could end their hopes in snapping up the player next transfer window. Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend says: ‘Man United will be getting a bargain if they sign Jadon Sancho for £108 million’.

Questions have been asked on the poor backing in the transfer window, Solskjaer stated his opinion on this suggesting; ‘The club know my view. I can’t say whether it’s acceptable. We’re working hard to get better with the player’s we’ve got’.

With the window expected too be a busy one at Old Trafford in the upcoming days, Solskjaer admitted they need to strengthen all over the park and not just on one player if they want to compete for top honors this season. But with Woodward knowing the title is out of reach and top four is a possibility, does he really need to spend knowing top four is all they need in order to have another year in the Champions League. Fans across twitter have made their voices heard over the poor backing of Solskjaer using the hashtags #GlazersOut #WoodwardOut.

With the lack of progression and £255 million spent under Solskjaer it is no doubt to question his future especially with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino available who took Spurs to a new dimension without much investment.

United will be looking to beat old boss Jose Mourinho as they host an in-form Spurs side live on Sky Sports this weekend. Both teams will be looking to avoid any dramatic finishes this time round.
